03-D: Oil Painting
April 3, 2012 Reflection.
1. The good/strong parts of my painting is the detail I have in the jungle leaves. I used super bright colors for the parrot to really make it look realistic. Different shades and tints of green were used to create depth and layers in the leaves.
2. I think I could have done a better job on the parrot's feet. I am not really happy with how they turned out. I think I could have also centered the parrot a bit more on the canvas.
3. I chose a nature theme for my oil painting. The painting as a whole was very tropical. I would say that tropical/brigh colors are the unity.
4. There are two main points of emphasis to my painting. The parrot is a major point of emphasis because it is the main object in the image and has many different bright bold colors that pop out. The leaves in the background are also another point of emphasis because they attract your attention with all the different shades and tints of green, and streaks of gray, white, and yellow.
5. Your eyes move around my painting because all the bright colors attract your eyes to it. There are different colors of leaves everywhere that make your eyes look around the background.
6. I learned a lot about layering paints during this unit. I can use this layering concept in life because you need to start off with a big strong first layer, then all the little details (other layers) will fall into place.
7. My painting was planned. It was the first sketch that I did and I knew that it was the image that I wanted to paint right away. I really wanted to make it look as realistic as I could get it. It did turn out the way I wanted it to, plus more.
8. This project is the best one that we've done. I love painting with oil paints! The materials were really good (frame, canvas, paints, brushes). I think there should be more time to complete this project so people can really put more effort into it.
